Week 6

God morning, everyone! It's our last week in this course, and the time has gone so quickly!

I learned a lot in this course. Not only in regards to information, but strategies and important factors that I feel will be beneficial to my teaching in middle grades classrooms.  I love that we delved into the importance and impact effective teachers can have on students. It was important for me to look at the class material and learn ways I can incorporate active learning and support positive behavior in my classroom. This course also allowed me to truly understand the importance we, as adults, play in the shaping of middle school students.

I would say overall, the most important factor that I learned in this course that I will take with me into the classroom is that middle school students are  truly at a transitional time in their life. The care we take in providing engaging lessons, supporting their social and academic growth, and providing a safe and positive learning environment will have a direct effect on how they view learning throughout high school and beyond. We have the tools and power to truly make a difference in this world, beginning with providing the necessary tools for middle school students to succeed. I plan to do my part towards making that difference.

  1. Hi Lisa,

I also learned a lot about different strategies to incorporate into my classroom and teaching style. I couldn't agree more about the fact that middle school students are in a transitional time in their life and our role as educators is vital in making a positive difference in their lives. It is so important for our classrooms to be a safe, positive and nurturing environment for our students to reach their full potential. It really is up to us as teachers to give our students everything they need in order to succeed and then the rest is up to them.

Take care, Lisa! Hope to see you in class soon.

  2. Lisa,
Great points! I agree with your point about how effective this course was and how we learned practical techniques that we will undoubtedly use in our future classrooms. I also agree with your most important factor that you mentioned. We are teaching student who are transitioning, so we must be an instrument of change and help them through their trying time.
